2024 in review

2024 has been our busiest year so far, almost doubling the amount of MW of the projects we worked with – 8,000 MW up from 5,000 MW! Following the previous year’s trend, the majority of these was for battery storage systems (almost half, 3,500 MW), showing that the storage sector is picking up pace, as NESO recognises the value that storage can add to the grid, not just to store excess generation, but to provide crucial services like fast frequency response, and even black start with grid forming inverters!

Grid feasibly studies, connection applications and connection offer reviews, both at transmission and distribution, continued to be the bulk of our services, working with around 1,500 – 2,000 MW for each one. On top of that, we saw an increase in requests for constraint analysis studies – for some of them we had the DNO numbers, but was asked by the developer to assess them, and run our own with some best and worst case scenarios.

Apart from retaining our main clients, who are happy with the level and quality of our services (and also our low fees!), we welcomed some new clients, mainly from word of mouth, and third-party recommendations. Although new, they already asked us to work on a total of at least 200MW of wind and 500MW of battery storage. It’s good to know that  the company is building up a good reputation within the renewable energy community, and we will keep trying to provide our best to our clients, old and new, to live up to these standards!

Overall, 2024 was a very good year, with a sharp increase in our workload, the number and total size of renewable generation new worked with, and new clients and opportunities!
